Storydeck Terms of Service
The short version
Storydeck is a personal-memory product. We help you remember the people, places, moments, and stories that matter to you. To use it, you have to agree to a few things. Here's the honest summary:
- You're a U.S. resident, at least 18 years old. Storydeck is offered only to U.S. residents 18 or older. By using the Service you confirm both.
- You're responsible for what you put in. You decide what to write, who to add, what to share. Storydeck does not pre-screen your content.
- You own your content. You give us a narrow license to host, process, encrypt, retrieve, and operate AI features against your content — only so we can run the Service for you. You can export or delete your content at any time.
- Storydeck is offered "as is." We work hard, but we cannot guarantee that the Service is bug-free, always available, or that AI features will always behave the way you want. If you can't accept that, please don't use the Service.
- Storydeck is in beta as of May 2026. Things may break, change, or be temporarily unavailable. We use this period to learn and improve.
- AI features are real, and they have limits. AI providers process your content. AI output may be wrong, misleading, or surprising. Don't rely on Storydeck for medical, legal, financial, or safety-critical decisions.
- No advertising. No selling your data. See the Privacy Policy for the detail.
- If something goes wrong, our liability is limited. Like every other consumer SaaS, our financial liability to you is capped. The cap is described in Section 11.
- If we disagree, we'll work it out under Kansas law in Kansas courts. Storydeck LLC is organized in Kansas; that's where disputes will be resolved.
The detail below covers each of these in full. Questions: [email protected].
1. Who these Terms apply to
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Storydeck LLC, a Kansas limited liability company ("Storydeck," "we," "us"), governing your use of storydeck.co and any related Storydeck-operated service (the "Service").
By creating an account, signing in, or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Eligibility
You may use Storydeck only if all of the following are true:
- You are a resident of the United States.
- You are at least 18 years old.
- You have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract.
- You are not barred from using the Service under U.S. law.
By creating an account you represent and warrant each of these. If any of them stops being true, you must stop using the Service.
We do not knowingly accept users outside the United States or under 18, and we do not direct the Service to such users. If we learn an account was created in violation of these eligibility rules, we may suspend or delete it.
3. Your account
To use most of Storydeck you need an account. You agree to:
- Provide accurate registration information.
- Keep your login credentials secure.
- Notify us promptly at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
- Not share your account or transfer it to anyone else.
You are responsible for all activity that happens under your account, except activity caused by Storydeck's own breach of these Terms or by a security failure on our side.
We use Auth0 to handle login. Auth0's terms apply to that part of the experience; we describe what Auth0 sees in the Privacy Policy.
4. The Service
Storydeck helps you capture and recall personal memories. As of the publication date of these Terms, Storydeck includes journal entries, a personal knowledge base (people, places, important dates, pets, life stories), AI-assisted features (chat with your memories, automatic titles, entity extraction, flashcards from your memories), and related features.
Beta status. As of May 2026, Storydeck is in beta. The Service may change, break, be temporarily unavailable, or have rough edges. Features may be added, changed, or removed without notice. We use this period to learn from real users and improve the product. By using the Service during the beta period you accept that experience.
We may add, change, suspend, or remove features at any time. We try to communicate material changes in advance where practical.
5. Acceptable use
When using Storydeck, you agree not to:
- Use the Service to violate any U.S., state, or local law.
- Use the Service to harass, defame, threaten, or abuse another person.
- Upload, transmit, or attempt to generate content that is unlawful, infringing, or that you do not have the right to use.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service, another user's account, or any system used by Storydeck.
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service, except through a clearly-marked responsible disclosure to [email protected].
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service, except where applicable law expressly permits it.
- Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to harvest data from the Service.
- Use the Service to train an AI model, build a competing product, or extract content for resale.
- Attempt to bypass, disable, or interfere with security, authentication, billing, rate-limit, or AI-firewall mechanisms.
- Send malicious code, spam, or unsolicited communications through the Service.
- Submit prompt-injection, jailbreak, or other adversarial inputs intended to manipulate Storydeck's AI features into producing harmful, deceptive, or off-policy output.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules, with or without notice depending on severity. We may also report violations to law enforcement where required by law.
6. Your content
6.1 You own your content
You retain all rights in the journal entries, knowledge-base entries, life stories, profile information, beta feedback, and other content you enter into Storydeck ("Your Content"). Storydeck does not claim ownership of Your Content.
6.2 The license you give us
To run the Service for you, you give Storydeck a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to:
- Host, store, encrypt, decrypt, and back up Your Content.
- Process Your Content as needed to deliver features you use, including embedding generation, retrieval, summarization, AI chat, entity extraction, and flashcard generation.
- Send relevant portions of Your Content to AI providers, infrastructure providers, and other sub-processors listed in the Privacy Policy, as needed to operate the Service.
- Generate audit, security, and operational logs that may include metadata derived from Your Content.
This license exists only so we can operate the Service for you. It is not a license for us to sell, syndicate, advertise, or otherwise commercially exploit Your Content. The license ends for Your Content when you delete it or your account, subject to backup retention and limited security/legal exceptions described in the Privacy Policy.
6.3 Your responsibility for Your Content
You are responsible for what you put into Storydeck. You represent and warrant that:
- You have the right to enter Your Content into the Service.
- Your Content does not violate any law or any third party's rights.
- You will not enter content that you cannot lawfully store or process through a U.S.-based SaaS platform that uses third-party AI providers.
Storydeck is a journaling and memory product. The content you enter may include highly sensitive information (health, family, financial, identification, relationship, or similar). You decide what to enter. We cannot promise that AI systems or software systems will never expose, infer, mishandle, or misinterpret sensitive content. You should avoid entering passwords, government identifiers, payment card numbers, account numbers, or other secrets.
6.4 Beta feedback
If you submit feedback through the in-app feedback panel or through email, you give Storydeck a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to use that feedback to improve the Service. We may act on your feedback without compensation or attribution, and we may incorporate ideas from your feedback into the Service. Your feedback is treated as confidential to Storydeck personnel; we do not publish individual feedback messages.
7. Storydeck's content and intellectual property
The Service itself — the software, design, brand, copy, logos, and supporting materials Storydeck publishes — is owned by Storydeck or its licensors and protected by intellectual-property law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your own personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms.
You may not copy, modify, redistribute, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service or its content, except as expressly permitted by these Terms or by applicable law.
The "Storydeck" name and brand belong to Storydeck. You may not use the name or brand without written permission.
8. Subscriptions, billing, and refunds
During beta. As of May 2026, Storydeck is offered free of charge during the beta period. We may introduce paid plans at any time. Where a tier is granted as a "comp" or trial, the comp expires at the end of the period stated when it was granted.
When paid plans launch. When paid plans become available, the following will apply to subscribers:
- Pricing. Current pricing for each plan will be shown at signup and on the pricing page. By starting a paid plan you agree to the price shown at signup.
- Billing. We bill through Stripe. Stripe holds your payment information; Storydeck does not store full card numbers. By starting a paid plan you authorize recurring charges according to the plan you chose, until you cancel.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before renewal. We will tell you how to cancel from inside the Service.
- Cancellation. You may cancel at any time. Cancellation stops future billing; it does not refund the current billing period unless required by law or expressly stated in our refund policy at the time.
- Refunds. Refunds are at our discretion, except where required by law. We will publish a refund policy when paid plans launch; that policy will be incorporated into these Terms.
- Price changes. We may change pricing for new billing periods. We will notify you in advance of a price change that affects you and give you the option to cancel before the new price takes effect.
- Failed payments. If a payment fails, we may downgrade your account, restrict paid features, or suspend your account until payment is current.
- Taxes. Prices shown are exclusive of taxes unless stated otherwise. You are responsible for any applicable taxes.
9. AI features
Storydeck uses AI providers, including Anthropic and OpenAI, to deliver features such as chat with your memories, automatic titles, entity extraction, flashcard generation, and embedding-based search.
You acknowledge and agree that:
- AI output can be wrong. AI-generated answers, summaries, and suggestions may be inaccurate, incomplete, biased, or misleading. Always verify before relying on them.
- AI features process your content. When you use an AI feature, relevant portions of Your Content are decrypted in server memory and sent to the relevant AI provider over an encrypted connection. The Privacy Policy describes this in detail (Section 6).
- AI providers operate under their own terms. AI providers may retain, process, review, or use limited data under their own API, safety, abuse-monitoring, legal, or security policies. We do not currently have special zero-data-retention agreements with these providers.
- No reliance for safety-critical decisions. Do not use Storydeck or its AI features as a substitute for professional medical, legal, financial, mental-health, or safety advice. If you are in crisis, contact a qualified professional or, in the U.S., dial or text 988.
You also agree not to use Storydeck's AI features to:
- Submit prompt-injection, jailbreak, or other adversarial inputs intended to manipulate the AI into ignoring its instructions.
- Generate content that violates Section 5 (acceptable use).
- Extract Storydeck's system prompts, internal canary tokens, or other operational secrets.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE," without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Storydeck disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and uninterrupted or error-free operation.
Without limiting that disclaimer, Storydeck does not warrant that:
- The Service will meet your requirements.
- The Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.
- AI features will produce accurate, complete, or useful output.
- Defects will be corrected on any particular timeline.
- Your content will not be lost, corrupted, or temporarily unavailable.
You assume the full risk of using the Service. You should keep your own backups of any content that is irreplaceable to you.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers; in those jurisdictions the disclaimers above apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Storydeck and its officers, members, employees, and agents will not be liable to you for:
- Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages.
- Loss of profits, revenue, business, goodwill, data, or memories.
- Damages arising from your inability to access or use the Service.
- Damages arising from AI-generated content, including reliance on AI output.
- Damages arising from a third-party service we depend on (Auth0, Anthropic, OpenAI, Stripe, AWS, Neon, Cloudflare, Fly.io, Resend, or others identified in the Privacy Policy).
- Damages arising from unauthorized access to or alteration of your content, except to the extent caused by Storydeck's gross negligence or willful misconduct.
In any case, Storydeck's total aggregate liability to you for any and all claims arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid Storydeck for the Service in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).
These limitations apply regardless of the legal theory of the claim (contract, tort, statute, or otherwise) and apply even if Storydeck has been advised of the possibility of the damages. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those jurisdictions our liability is limited to the minimum allowed by law.
12. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Storydeck and its officers, members, employees, and agents from any third-party claim, demand, loss, liability, cost, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of:
- Your use or misuse of the Service.
- Your Content.
- Your violation of these Terms or applicable law.
- Your violation of any third party's rights, including intellectual-property or privacy rights.
We will tell you promptly about any claim covered by this section, and we will cooperate reasonably in your defense. We may participate in the defense at our own expense if we choose.
13. Termination
By you. You may stop using the Service at any time. To delete your account and the personal information we hold for you, write to [email protected]. The Privacy Policy describes how deletion is handled.
By us. We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, if:
- You violate these Terms or our Privacy Policy.
- We reasonably believe your activity is harmful to Storydeck, other users, or the Service.
- We are required to do so by law or by a third party we depend on.
- We discontinue the Service or a part of it.
If we terminate your account other than for a material violation of these Terms, we will use reasonable efforts to give you advance notice and a chance to export your content.
What survives termination. Sections 5, 6.3, 6.4, 7, 9 (last paragraph), 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, and 16 survive termination, along with any other provision that by its nature should survive.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Kansas, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Kansas. You and Storydeck consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts and waive any objection to venue there.
This section does not prevent either party from seeking equitable relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to protect intellectual-property rights or confidential information.
If a dispute arises, you agree to first contact us at [email protected] and try to resolve it informally for at least thirty (30) days before filing any formal legal action.
You may always pursue a claim in your local small-claims court, where eligible.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make a material change — one that affects your rights, your billing, what content we can use, or how disputes are handled — we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
- Notify you by email or in-product notice before the new version takes effect, where practical.
- Where the change is material to a paid plan, give you a clear option to cancel before the new version takes effect.
Continued use of the Service after the new version takes effect means you accept the new Terms. If you do not accept them, you must stop using the Service.
For non-material changes (clarifications, formatting, contact-information updates, or corrections), we will update the page and the "Last updated" date.
16. Other terms
Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any plan-specific terms you accept at signup, are the entire agreement between you and Storydeck about the Service. They replace any prior agreement, oral or written, on the same subject.
No assignment by you. You may not assign or transfer these Terms or any rights under them without our written permission. Storydeck may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the rest of the Terms remain in full effect, and the unenforceable provision will be modified to the minimum extent needed to make it enforceable.
No waiver. Storydeck's failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of that provision or of any other provision.
Headings. Section headings are for convenience only and do not affect the interpretation of these Terms.
Notices. We may send notices to you by email to the address on your account or by in-product notice. You may send notices to us by email at [email protected]; legal notices should be sent to the same address with "LEGAL NOTICE" in the subject line.
Independent contractors. You and Storydeck are independent contractors. Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, joint venture, employment, or agency relationship.
Force majeure. Neither party is liable for any failure or delay in performance caused by events outside its reasonable control, including natural disasters, war, terrorism, civil unrest, government action, internet outages, AI-provider outages, or pandemics.
